An individual familiar with the ins and outs of a Minnesota Criminal Records website (www.mncriminals.com) contacted me via this blog and...
...told me things. He or she told me about a guy named Sammie Lee Burch, age 31, known to go by the name "Snoop." (All of this is unconfirmed) He was "best friends" with her brother Daniel Leikas, the guy who killed the infant and reportedly perpetrated sexual abuse in the Leikas home. (Leikas is the name of Annshalike's mother, June Leikas)
The Summer Of Sammie?
According to this source, who was in a position to share information apparently in the hands of the police investigation, Sammie was reportedly hanging out with Annshalike the summer she got pregnant. He went to prison for trying to strangle a girl who was pregnant by him in August. Right now, he's incarcerated in St. Cloud. His incarceration date was Christmas Eve (December 24) 2008.
The question is...was he incarcerated at the time of Annshalike's disappearance?
My source went to MySpace--a social network I don't use, I'm more of a Facebook guy--and found out Sammie posted one of Annshalike's "photo bucket" pictures on his MySpace page during the summer of 2008.
A Little Girl With A Temper, Missing School
Also, in the last few days I had the opportunity to communicate with somebody who knew Annshalike in the Minneapolis education system in grade school. This person spoke to me anonymously.
According to this source, Annshalike was never a straight A student even back in GRADE school. In fact, Annshalike had a very bad temper. Some teachers couldn't even work with her, because of the temper. (This wasn't true of all the teachers, however) Annshalike was administratively transferred from Franklin Middle School to Olsen Middle School. (I wasn't told why)
Also, she was frequently absent from school.
I am going out of my way to publish this information because my blog (though not just my blog) perpetuated the information that Annshalike was a "straight A student." This was not the case.
A Resident Of The Jordan Neighborhood
This source knew Annshalike Hamilton's home address and was able to confirm she lived on the "odd side" of Emerson Ave. N., and therefore in the Jordan Neighborhood. (Annshalike's body was, however, found in Hawthorne) Annshalike lived on the 3000 block of Emerson Ave. N., on the odd side of the street. The property is a rental.
My source was outraged about the death of Annshalike and wanted a billboard and a reward offered. The source thanked me for keeping the story on people's minds and agreed stuff like a sibling going to prison for--oh, gee, killing an infant--was "relevant."
As always, those who have information to add are urged to use the comments function. I'd particularly like to hear more about Sammie Burch.

It's always interesting to me how people are more likely to be outraged about a murder victim when they have a few positive qualities (like straight A student) rather than somebody who who was a multiple time loser. I think it's human nature to say "OK, that's not me, I'm safe, my kids are safe, etc." So now we know that Annshalike came from a background where violence was the norm, not the exception and she wasn't perfect. That doesn't make her killer any less guilty. At some point she had the potential to be successful but that point may have been passed a little earlier than previously suggested.
There is a lot of criminality that simply reflects the situation. Killings in drug transactions, gang retaliations have a kind of logic about them, even if we reject that logic. It's about economics, or tit for tat, proving strength, manhood, whatever. If your new info is true, this family had some kind of in trenched socio-pathology working here, which made them both predators and prey. It wouldn't surprise me if it was multi-generational.
I want to see this murderer caught, but I was never buying the good character of the victim.
Do you know how boring it is to hang out all the time with drunks when you don't drink? That is a big reason why alcoholics can't give it up. They have to give up their friends and social life. It is too much all at once.
The same goes for druggies. If the victim chose to spend her time with someone doing drugs, going out of her way to be where he was and spend time with him, then you can't tell me she wasn't using.
It does not make it less of a crime or her less of a victim, or the pain of her family any less, but it does explain why she spent time with a drug using boyfriend instead of studying.

Annshalike, a student at Patrick Henry High School in Minneapolis with aspirations to become a lawyer, was found frozen and dead December 15th in a garage on the 2200 block of 4th Street North in the Hawthorne neighborhood. She died of multiple blunt-force injuries, which typically means a fatal beating. Her fetus died as a result of her death.
Below you will find the obituary written by her family and widely shared at her funeral last Saturday. It speaks volumes about the lives we have lost and the children we must work to protect and save.

Annshalike Shanta Hamilton was born on April 17, 1993 to June Leikas and Scott Hamilton in Minneapolis, Minnesota; the youngest of June's five children. Growing up she and her brother, Anthony and sister Ann Marie, were inseparable; they rode their bikes all around town, and played at neighborhood parks and clubs. Her family and friends called her "Lili." Annshalike, a sophomore at Patrick Henry High School, was a popular student who wanted to become a lawyer. Before high school she attended Olson, Franklin Jr. High and Hall Elementary schools. She was down to earth, had a good heart and a beautiful smile. At times, she could be sweet and other times opinionated, loud and outspoken. She could walk into a room of strangers and walk out with a friend; she had a big circle of friends and was a fun-loving person.
Annshalike had the ability to spread love and laughter to everyone who was fortunate enough to cross her path. She loved children, and had a close relationship with many of her younger siblings and relatives who loved and looked up to her. She often babysat for her Uncle Eric and Aunt Ann and her little sister Dominiquerenee. Being a true friend was important to Annshalike, which is what she was to her stepsister Tamara, who was one of her best friends.
Her passions included: spoiling her beloved dog Honey who was her sleeping partner, writing poetry, shopping (she lived at the mall) and listening to music, particularly Soulja Boy. She loved her family, the color purple, stuffed animals, eating (constantly raided the refrigerator) and traveling with her father to visit family and friends. She was addicted to the computer and her cell phone.
Annshalike was seven months pregnant. Before giving birth to a daughter she planned on naming Kyra Marie Hamilton, her life ended tragically at age 15. May the angels of heaven watch over her. She will be dearly missed by all who was blessed to have known her. Positives memories of her will live forever in our minds and hearts. She rejoices in heaven with her nephew, Delijahjaun Winden and grandparents, Jerome and Annie Hamilton.

I'll ask the same question that I've been asking all along about this case: "Where's Momma?" Girls that age need a mentor and someone who tells them that they are loved...alot! It would solve a lot of problems for girls like Annshalike.

I attended, the vigil today of Annashalike Hamilton, I only attended for a while (due to my son, wanting to throw snow balls.) (Will post pictures shortly) However, like I posted in my blog, It doesn't so much matter who Annashalike was, straight A student, president of the student counsel or what ever....Or even that she wanted to be a Lawyer, what the point is that she was 15, pregnant by (rumored) a 31 male, and she was MURDERED, a few houses down from me. This is a child none the less a child. She was also pregnant, and this UNBORN fetus, was also murdered. This should make anyone cry. I hope that they do find the murderer. Weather or not it is this Sammie, "Snoop" or not. I HOPE FOR THE FAMILY that they catch the person responcible.

He was not RELEASED just prior to Christmas. The state's website says his ADMIT DATE was December 24 2008 and his SUPERVISED RELEASE DATE is, gee, a couple years from now. You must have been skimming when you read the state's website--which I linked from his name--and you mixed up the concept of a prison ADMIT date (stomp stomp) with a prison RELEASE date. You know folks are always trying to make the bad people look good in tragic situations, I feel so sorry for this kid, her unborn child and the family, but it is obvious she had a rough life. Where in the hell were the parents when she was hanging out with these grown ass men!!!
No parent can tell me that they can't do anything with their kids their are too many resources in Minnesota.
If the state would release these child abuse laws a little so we can teach our kids the true meaning of being a parent and in control of their lives until they become independent and adults themselves and I don't mean so we can spake them but at least put some fear in their hearts, so they will understand that when we say don't leave the house they will know not to leave.

Look, we don't know if there was more than one guy named "Snoop" or even if the information and rumor about a "Snoop" is wrong. Clearly, there has been WRONG information floating around, like the "straight A student" stuff which I now firmly believe to have been false info.
People need to come forward. Oh, and let me say this: if people come forward and don't hear back from the police, then they need to come forward AGAIN. It's not a perfect system.

sammi (snoop) admit date may be december but thats the admit date to prison i would think because as far as i know he has ben in the county jail since end of summer. also he is someone the family has known for more than 10 years.i know him personaly and he defenetly is not the guy the detectives showed me in the pic they had.

I agree with the above post. Sammie has definitely been in the county jail since the summer. He had to await trial, get sentenced, then be brought to prison on his start date. I know him, he's been out of the pic for a while. And yes, he's been a friend of the family for a long time and while not the greatest of people (who is?), he would kill a pedophile on site and go to jail without regrets (as would most non-sex offending criminals). Remember people, snoop is a VERY common nickname. The man we want is black black with a 'snoop' tattoo on his neckbone.
I figured that the person responsible for annshalikes murder was somebody that her family knew. June always had guys around her kids from the time they were little. She was always drinking and doing drugs, with these guys. I'm sure she didnt give a damn what her kids did. Look at the way her kids turned out. They learned from example. She has a different baby daddy for each of her kids. I am pretty sure that the person who murdered annshalike is a friend of the family. RIP annshalike

I really appreciate you keeping the information flowing. Annshalike lived with me for a couple years starting from the age of 5. I tried to adopt her, but the system failed her terribly, and gave her back to her mother. She should have never been reunited with her mother.
I was not surprised when I read that this "snoop" person was a friend of Daniel's. Because I knew one way or another the family had something to do with her death. Annshalike may not have been an "A" student, but she was a very sweet girl and she tried her best to do well. But there was always something that prevented her from doing well(her family). Maybe you can help me, I want to do something in memory of Annshalike, so maybe I/we can prevent this from happening to another young girl.
Just a comment to Marilyn. I understand what you are saying. Even if Annshalike would have been at home she would have been in the same type of environment. Annshalike did not have a chance.
To all of you who think they knew Annshalike I just want to say this. Annshalike was my little girl for 4 years. I called her my daughter I never had. We gave her a very good life while we had her. The system is as much the blame as the animal that did this to Annshalike. My wife and I loved this little girl. We still have her original birth certificate and some awards she received in school from Chelsa Heights Elementary School in St Paul. Annshalike gave those teacher hell but they all loved her because they understood her young life story. I must admit, Annshalike did have a bad tempter. Have anyone wonder or ask why she had a bad tempter. Annshalike loved her family. We also know that she did not want to go back to her mother because she knew that we were going to love and nature her and not let her do whatever she wanted. My wife and I tried our best to keep Annshalike because we were afraid that some like this might happen. When the court system took Annshalike from us and gave her back to her mother, Annshalike called us every week. Some of her teacher at her new school would call us when she was bad at school because our number was the only one she knew. The teacher would tell us that she wanted us to come to the school but we could not do that. We wanted so bad to go to the school to find out what the problem is and to tell them what to do when she acted out. The only ones that knew what to do when Annshalike was bad was the ones that really and truly loved her. Annshalike just wanted someone to tell her that she is doing something wrong and than tell her why it is wrong. We never told her that the bad things she done was cute and funny. My wife told me that when we picked up Annshalike from a weekend visit with her mother, her sister, Ann Marie told my wife to keep Annshalike always.
I will always remember Annshalike as my little girl. My wife and I love Annshalike.

Would you elaborate on that? Because, see, you're just an anonymous poster and, really, your opinion weighs no more than anybody's opinion, around here. If you have some proof of what you're saying, state facts, state names.
Really, it sounds to me like this girl was doomed practically from birth because of her family situation; criminal brothers, sex abuse in the home, shuffled from one elementary school to another and now, geez, FOSTER HOMES? If you can prove she achieved a g.p.a. of more than 3.5 even ONE semester, I will print a picture of a hat, and then a picture of some teeth, so I can symbolically "eat my hat" on the blogosphere. However, I doubt very much that will happen. No child who is shuffled from school to school, bouncing into and out of a foster home, losing her temper at school, brother in prison, hanging out with thugs...no child like that is going to achieve good grades.
If the police want to find who murdered somebody, then they need to know the truth about that person's life, not what some people WANT to believe or want OTHERS to believe. If people want the murderer found...start spitting the truth about her life.

Wow, It is amazing how far some people will go as far as posting to this blog. Now, I have been trying to keep up with the news and the gossip. I think some people are losing what is the important factor.
Weather she was in your foster home 1 month before her disappearance or 10 years or anytime before. Im am most certain that the system didn't fail her, yes the system is very flawed. However, if the parents comply with all actions that is required by the court then they have to send the child back to the mother/father or whom ever. The child services program is flogged with children, and it is unfortunate. If Annashalike did have issues, anger or what not what of it. She could have been your lil girl, some one elses or in another home some where else, we must think of her and the position that she put herself into. She was 15, and most 15 year olds do not think of the consequences.
It is almost sounding like some anonymous person or persons is trying to throw the vass majority off from what is there, or what might not be there. "Boosie" or "Snoop" "some one the family knew" or what have you. There is ways to get information to the police and remain Anonymous. Minneapolis has a wonderful Crime Stoppers number and they keep all info private. You don't even have to give your name, and you can call from a pay phone. I, and possibly we all want the murderer found...

one thing that gets me is the work of the police in the begining they had a lot of people come forward and everyone was points the finger in the same direction and also we found letters in annshalikes room that talked about the death threats she was receiving and also you got the statement her friend made to the star tribune that she was in fear for annshalikes life due to the thrats from her babys father but yet they acted clueles.Not to mention when we first got the news that annshalike was pregnet by an older man her mother contacted the police and nothing was done. For Annshalike's best friend, I believe in my heart that she knows more than what she is saying and yes she may be afraid for her life, but I am sure there is witness protection somewhere out there. If she was removed from the home then that means the family was dysfunctional!!!!!
The state does not just pick kids randomly to send to foster care, and yes the system is flawed, and it is disgraceful.

Though most of your information maybe true, I don’t intend to discredit you in anyway shape or form. I knew Snoop personally and I was with him the night the police took him away. I just wanted to set a certain part of your records straight, he did not go to prison because he strangled a girl who was pregnant with his child. I would also like to add from personal experience that Annshalike was a very friendly young lady. Every time I saw Annshalike she was always in good spirits and had her beautiful smile present. She was a very friendly person and she will be missed. I wish I had more time to know her, but I am thankful for the getting the opportunity to meet her.

I'm sure a blog "judging" people has little to do with why people do or do not come forward, when we're talking about a police investigation and MURDER. What a lame argument.

I can't post that comment but I appreciate your attempt to communicate information to me. Tell me more. For example, if there is a court case about the money you mentioned, can you provide the court case number? What are the FULL NAMES of the people you are telling me about?
And shouldn't you be telling your suspicions to the police?

I wish to add that as of today, yet another source is saying, emphatically, that while Sammie Burch is not a "star person" and does indeed go by the nickname "Snoop," and has a history of violence toward women which is bad enough to put him IN PRISON, the source says...
1.) He regarded Annshalike as a little sister, and did not look at her in a sexual way.
2.) He just wasn't around much.
To this I respond: the selection of the "sultry pose" Annshalike photo in Burch's online profile, and the placement of that photo says much, but there can also be an interpretation of innocent intent. If Burch never had sex with Annshalike or touched her sexually, then it sounds like he is serving his time for the things he did, and one might give the man his respect.
I'm interested in who murdered her, who helped cover it up, and who were the individuals who should be charged with statutory rape in light of Annshalike's age. If Burch doesn't fall in those categories, then I have no quarrel with Burch EXCEPT FOR the things he's actually been convicted of.
For now, "Peace out, Sammie Burch."
So after all this time, what do we now know?
What is going on with this case? What was the trust fund theory?
Still looking for answers and justice!
