"Adult" Car Wash Has Sprung Up on Broadway

(click on image to read, this image added as addendum)
Well, as you can see from the above photos, Broadway has a new business. An "adult" car wash. This is the term being used by revitalizers along Broadway, and let me tell you, this is not a welcomed new business.

As a matter of fact, word is going out through the community that people are being asked to call 9-1-1 if they see this "adult" car wash open for business on Broadway, or for that matter through out the northside. Who knows where it might pop up next.

The above photos were taken this past Saturday, July 30th. Broadway was a busy place; a busy summer weekend, an art crawl along Broadway (FLOW), and some kind of entrepreneurs who wanted to rid NoMi of all the "dirty" cars, pun intended.

For the record, the photos taken at the time were never intended for this blog, just sort of an instant reaction while enjoying FLOW and seeing this at the corner of Broadway and Fremont. My camera was in my hand as I traveled around with friends, and the scene at Bro-Fre was quite unbelievable. And not in a good way.

You see, what the still photos don't capture, is the animation and motion these girls were going through. A lot of bouncing. A lot of dramatic gestures and poses. I'm surprised there wasn't a major car crash. We actually witnessed a motorcycle driver who was so captivated he veered across three lanes of traffic, headed diagonally towards the street gutter in front of Hooks. He managed to focus and correct his bike just in the nick of time. It could have been really ugly.

The three photos shared here are the tame ones. Several more are much more risque and not suitable to share. As you can see in one of the photos above, there is a mom and three children sitting on the bus stop bench directly in front of the "adult" car wash. The picture may not show it, but the mom did not look amused as she sat there waiting for her bus. The bottom photo sort of shows one gal doing a rather dramatic gesture as she wrung out the soapy water from her car wash sponge.

Again, keep in mind the photos don't capture the motion. There was one gal doing such a dramatic dance, well, I can't quite describe it, there was just a lot of bouncing. Everywhere.

So, the issues that have come up around this "adult" car wash are:

Q: Is it even legal? A: Some important folks are working on that. As of right now, people are asked to call 9-1-1 to report it. I'll share a more definitive answer when I receive it.

Q: Is this what we want in our community? A: I guess it depends on who you ask. Even the man on the yellow motorcycle might say no, I'm not sure he can handle this new business. OK, all jokes aside, speaking for myself and based on the looks of the bus stop mom's face, my answer is not only no, but Oh *&%$ NO! These girls belong at a private car show, or a beach festival or some kind of side show, man-fest, concert or whatever. Not on the corner of a residential community on any given day or afternoon they choose to "work." A lot of the kids in this community don't have a strong support structure to learn the difference between what is appropriate behavior for appropriate ages and public conduct. These gals and their scantily-clad-dramatic-car-wash-strip-show will do nothing but cause disgust and confusion and all kinds of unpredictable reactions from folks of all ages and backgrounds.

Q: What can be done about it? A: We'll let the authorities figure that one out, and for now just keep spreading the word that the authorities want to be notified when this is going on. Call 9-1-1 and report the "adult" car wash. At the very least someone can make them put on some clothes and chill out on the dramatic bouncing and gyrating.

Oh, and boycott the business. Word is the owner of the gas station there at Bro-Fre put out an ad on craigslist for these girls. Could be just a rumor, but it's probably got some truth to it. I'll give an update when more info is shared. Let the owner know that as a community we do not approve of this type of public display of, of...of BOUNCING SKIN and it's not a healthy thing for our community.

Stay tuned for updates...

Update #1: I easily found the craigslist ad and added it as an image above. It's not clear who created the craigslist ad, the business owner of the gas station may not have, but that business owner is obviously cooperating with the concept.

This is EXCELLENT! You need a reason for people to drive through NOMI except to buy drugs. I'll tell you the customers of this business have money to burn and won't mind spending it in NOMI and won't be buying drugs and prostitutes. Is it seedy? Perhaps but I assure you its legal and much less seedy than BJ's. Please try to cast aside your cat like impulses forget how these women look and focus on the revenue to the neighborhood and the business it will send to the other NOMI businesses along the corridor.

And there's one of those mixed reactions I predicted.

Hey Anon, I think the women look great. Matter of fact, on Saturday we were all praising them that at least they had bikini bodies versus the alternative.

But regardless of whether they look good in a bikini or not, I still don't think it's a business that is good for our community. We already have too much indecency and inappropriate behavior and a lot of the youngsters here just don't get good adult guidance to be able to consume this type of thing in their face, on a day to day basis. Yes, they may already get it on MTV BET, movies etc, but we don't need to add to it. My two cents.

Furthermore, I doubt people will drive through here just for this. To me this is geared towards the people already here. There's not going to be advertising out in Plymouth or Anoka saying come to North Minneapolis for the Bikini Car Wash. And I disagree that the only reason people are driving through already is for drugs. That's too cynical even for me.

Adult Car wash?

Is an Adult Car one over twenty-one years of age? I used to own one, but it quit.

Don Allen's car is going to be the cleanest vehicle in the midwest.

Anyone who has been in NoMi knows that the car wash owned by Randi Lane on James and Broadway is open for blowjobs and sex 24/7 and has been that way for many years!!!

This is despicable. I haven't been down that way since you posted. Is it still going on? I used to go to this gas station but quit when it became thug friendly.

Ummmmm , at least they are working and not loading a dozen children up and heading to welfare office. Or...are they making money this way and NOT reporting to the welfare - gotta make money !!

Anonymous said...

Do you know if the girls working here will do this at a private residence or party? I think this would be a hoot at a bachelor party. How can I get in tough with the owner?

Anonymous said...

Surely public indecency laws would apply here? This business needs to lose its license. Seriously.

Anyone who wants to contact the owner or the entrepreneur for any reason (such as hiring the girls) call the craigslist ad I have posted here.

Thanks for promoting our business on your blog. For the record the Northside Bikini Car Wash is not specifically at this business. We move the car wash from location to location and post the details of our events on Twitter and Facebook. If you are interested in getting your ride rubbed check out Northside Bikini Car Wash on Twitter or Facebook.

Peace!

And here's a link to that facebook page, complete with videos and location updates.

I watched the video posted on Facebook and I would like to see this blog take an active role in making life very uncomfortable for these charlitans. I cannot tell you how offended I was watching the bulbous bottoms of those young women rub on the vehicles. Perhaps you could organize some picketing and post pictures here?

We wouldn't need a lot of signs. Just one big sign that says "If you want your daughter to end up like this, then abandon her now."

Whats even more disgusting is the photo of the "car wash" with the child in it. nice role models for this little kid.

It can't hurt your cause if someone would find out first if the business and its behavior is legal. Hooters are, but there you have to decide for yourself to go inside. I myself don't mind this car wash much, but I see your point with the parents with children who are forced to see this while minding their own business: "there is a mom and three children sitting on the bus stop bench directly in front of the "adult" car wash. The picture may not show it, but the mom did not look amused as she sat there waiting for her bus."

Calling 911 seems counter-productive, there is no immediate threat but erosion of acceptabel behavior. Call 311 instead, and complain.

Another angle would be occupational health: Are the workers protected enough against all chemicals they have to use to wash the cars? It doesn't matter if the workers don't mind, the employer MUST make the work as safe as possible.

To the previous poster, whose comment I approved all the way from Afghanistan:

Our trusted leaders are telling us to call 911. So we will call 911. You go ahead and call 311 if you like, though. I am sure it can't hurt. Be sure to post the 311 report number here when you do.

I join the neighbors who do not approve of this business and want it gone, gone, gone from North Minneapolis. Also, if you're driving a Suburban with a child seat in it, or something that says "My child is an honor student at blah blah blah" or whatever, and your car is at the adult care wash, don't be surprised if your car and its license plate end up right here on this blog and you can find yourself explaining to the spouse about what business you were patronizing while you were by yourself with the vehicle.

There are First Amendment issues, here, but a money making adult-themed business is subject to zoning and does not belong on a public street where there are children and distractions to traffic.

I might also add:

The poster calling himself "Peter T" is not Peter Teachout.

Instead of getting my car washed by hookers, it makes much more sense just pulling into the lot and driving off wit' one o' dem hos'. Let me tell you that i would drive the helpless lass and her big stank ass to the Haven for Hos that just opened its doors a while back. I wonder how many of these car detailers were trained at the Haven for Hos? Who knows? Was that Kool-aid or Wild Irish Rose? Anonameass 10:15 seems to think the trickle down effect will spread to other businesses...like the V.D. clinic up the block. There is something trickling alright, down your leg and it ain't the color of piss. Since this business moves around alot, i would have to assume that is so they can make new connections in the neighborhood to help them ply their assorted other wears.Quack,Quack got any crack? Crack kills and lookin' at them booties i can only imagine the crack wanting to strike back. The only difference between a prostitute and a crack dealer is that the ho can wash her crack and sell it again. Two birds wit' one stone, i guess. Good Day.

I think this is ok, some might not care for it, but looks legal to me. Different stokes for different folks! What are you going to picket next, Barnes and Noble because a kid might see a cover of Playboy? Get over yourself...

I feel slighted that my post from the eighth of August was not put up. Maybe you are sick of the Boats edgy comments that hit all to close to home and the fucking reality of these Shitcago derelicts runnin' their bullshit in our city. Whatever... i think NoMi is in charge while you are fighting for our country,so it's quite okay. I just want to thank you from the bottom of my heart and i will look forward to introducing myself to you personally and stepping it up ten notches because i like your style, which is obviously all substance because you are proving it and your son should be extremely proud of you because you are one hell of a Man. Good luck,John, see you soon. Good Day from the Boat. P.S. NoMi, keep up the good work also. You seem to have a pretty decent human being for a partner. P.S.S. To anonameass 8:26 who bumped me off the ego board... fuck you. Boat bein' Boat and i can't help myself but am definitely over myself....mirrors on the ceiling, idiot.

Hi Boathead, you are right, I am approving comments while John is escorting work crews around the FOB and rolling out in convoys to get to OTHER FOBs, bless his heart.

So about your comment from yesterday, yes you are right it was a bit edgy (eupahmism for offensive) but after thinking about it for a day and going back to re-read it, I decided f-it, the bikini booty wash girls and the men that created the concept, with the nasty ass logo of a hose with water spurting out the end of it, all of that is offensive enough, so why be surprised if people react offensively. This blog believes in freedom of speech and I think your comment deserves freedom. I don't think you are being hateful to a class of people, but rather you are reacting with disdain and disgust at a certain behavior, and behavior is not protected under the law.

So... your comment is published above. And you make some very valid points. Thanks for participating in the discussion.

Far from being offensive to a class of people. That is more true than you realize since i could and will tear a new ass to any fool regardless of his or her skin pigmentation. I grew up in this area in the 60s and 70s and know it as well as anyone. I have watched this area, in my time, and i have seen alot of bullshit occur. My background demands that i hang out with people of different cultures and skin pigments. Alot of folks wear the Pig part real well..no matter. I do not give a dirty damn or a badgers ass what anyone may think of my comments or how they define them in their childish-like world. I am all about equality and that means when it is time to criticize these, or any other dubious manure melons, i, fucking Boathead, will tell it like it is in my own flashback in your face manner. Confucius taught the Golden Rule which, i guess, meant that a person should try their individual best so we can survive as a collective whole. Any one person or group with ulterior motives to bring down our community and then just move on is a pile of the smelliest shit in the world and will be treated appropriately with prolonged oration and furious feelings of derelict trodden on my mug anger. Good Day. P.S.-no B.S.

The business is illegal. Car washes need filtration systems to prevent sediment from going into the river. It is even illegal to washe your own car in your driveway because of this.

Save a fish, by not stopping to smell some tuna. Call 911.

August 20 is not correct. Mpls has an ordinance against washing and repairing vehicles in the street.
It is perfectly legal to wash and wax your vehicle in your own driveway. You can also repair your vehicle, and change your own oil (please dispose of it properly) as long as the vehicle is on your private driveway or in your garage.
