According to a criminal complaint against Honora Tremaine Patterson, click here, Patterson was a "daily visitor" at 2311 Queen Ave. N., where he visited Lolitta M. Malone.
It was Malone's housemate and former boyfriend, Henry Love, who discovered the victim stabbed to death and covered in gasoline. Henry had come downstairs to light a cigarette.
Good thing Henry waited before lighting that cigarette.
A red plastic gas container with some gas still in it was near the body...
In language that attempts to be dry and factual, but can't help breaking into the spectrum of horrific and graphic, the criminal complaint describes the scene like this:
...(O)fficers deteced the strong odor of gasoline coming from a bedroom on the main floor. Inside this bedroom, officers located an identified adult female, hereafter victim. The victim was lying on her back on the floor in a pool of blood, had a large amount of blood on her torso, neck and face, and appeared to have sustained multiple sharp force injuries to her upper body. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officers observed the bedroom was in disarray, that multiple items appeared to have been knocked over, and it appeared a struggle had ensued inside the bedroom. A red plastic gas container with an amount of gasoline remaining was located near the victim's body. The victim's clothes were soaked in a fluid that smelled consistent with gasoline.
Henry Love was waiting upstairs for the officer, wisely NOT TOUCHING ANYTHING. It was Love who had called 911.
Because a "blood like" substance was found on the year door of the adjoining duplex, and nobody responded to officers (one assumes) yelling and banging on the door, the officers "made entry" into 2309 Queen Ave. N. where they discovered an adult female and "several" children, who were safe.
Speaking to Henry Love (Witness #1) the officers heard that a guy named Honora Patterson was a daily guest of the victim. Patterson was reported to drive a light green Chrysler 300 with no rear license plate. Love didn't hear any struggle downstairs but was wearing hearing aids in both ears and is hard of hearing. It is unknown if this is the same "Henry Love" with a rough and felonious past, click here.
The lady who lives next door with the children also reported the victim was known to "consort" with Patterson. Somehow I think "consort" is a word chosen by the prosecutor's office and not the witness, but here we see the advantage of a rich vocabulary. "Consort" is so much nicer than saying "Hanging out, doing god knows what."
The victim's cell phone was located and officers found the phone number of the defendant, 612-212-4011.
The day after the murder, another witness was located, Witness #3. This witness had spoken to Patterson and (allegedly) Patterson admitted stabbing the victim because she had been stealing money from him. Patterson told Witness #3 that blood-soaked clothing worn at the time of the murder was stashed near 3311 Fremont Ave. N., which is a rental property owned by Jeremy D. Larson of Golden Valley, with the taxpayer listed as Sunson Properties, LLC, also of Golden Valley.
Officers accompanied the witness and located a brown paper bag "lying in the open" with a pair of black boots, a gray coat, black jeans and a belt. The coat and jeans were coated with an "apparent blood like substance." Inside the bag was a fitted sheet, socks, a glove and a knife. And then there was a separate bag, with two shirts, one white and one black. The same "apparent blood like substance" was on some of these items.
There was, however, no red bow to wrap up the package. The whole scenario sounds like an exercise in criminal forensics school during the first semester when the simulated crime scenes are fairly easy and, really, we're just concentrating on the proper processing of evidence.
That same day, officers observed the distinctive light green Chrysler and waited until the defendant approached, at which point he was taken into custody. Officers seized his phone and waited for a search warrant. Once they had the warrant, the call history was confirmed between defendant and Witness #3.
To which I say, GOOD LORD, HE WASN'T EVEN SMART ENOUGH TO DELETE MESSAGES TALKING ABOUT THE MURDER?
Forensic testing confirmed the victim's blood as well as gasoline were all over the items described.
Moral of the story? After you commit a terrible crime, GET OUT OF NORTH MINNEAPOLIS AND GO SOME PLACE LIKE CHICAGO. BE SURE TO OBEY THE SPEED LIMIT IN YOUR REAR PLATELESS LIGHT GREEN CHRYSLER.
Patterson reportedly lives at 3238 Girard Ave. N., a rental owned by Danlen Properties, LLC. The manager of Danlen Properties is Daniel Gelb. This entity was once the winner of a "Stupid Home Repairs" award here on Johnny Northside Dot Com, click here.
