On the same day I got word Devon D. Parker, 20, committed a murder on the day he was supposed to be in court over alleged probation violations, word reaches me that baby-faced criminal Glenn D. Smith has been released on pretrial conditions. Smith, charged over a gang related alley shooting in which a senior citizen was grazed in the face, had been sitting in jail while his son was born.
No doubt playing the "new daddy card" to the max, Smith (who goes by Chief-Chuck So Iicey Smith on Facebook and no, that's NOT a typo) was pictured on Facebook today holding his new son. The jail roster shows Smith was released on "pretrial conditions." Three assault charges were dismissed but Smith still faces burglary and being a prohibited person in possession of a weapon. Smith's trial isn't until May.
I suspect if Smith keeps his nose clean until then...
...he might be able to plead to some kind of long probation and get sentenced to time served. The fact Smith endlessly promotes gang activity on Facebook is something the justice system will ignore because social media and its impact on society is moving much faster than the justice system's ability to adjust. In a perfect world, Smith wouldn't be allowed to have pictures of himself on Facebook brandishing weapons while .
We're nowhere near that perfect world, as evidenced by today's home owner murdered (allegedly) by a young man prematurely released by the justice system who (truth be told) didn't have as many scary things on his Facebook profile as this scary little gang banger Glenn Smith.
