Utility Pole Sign Spammers Should Stay Out Of North Minneapolis...

Photo and blog post by John Hoff, photo digitally altered to remove phone number

They've been warned on this blog and other blogs again and again: if we see your "utility pole sign spam" in North Minneapolis, we will not only remove your signs, we will use them as pinatas and...

...burn them in bonfires. (As long as there is no plastic or paint involved) We have more legal right to remove your signs than you have to erect them and, by golly, we will do it.

Still, sign post spammers apparently don't get the word. In fact, sometimes their signs seem to be evolving: this sample above is shrink wrapped so it could be on the pole a long time. I didn't have a stick or hammer handy so I beat this one down with my fist, but plenty more of this "Let Us Do Your...Hardwood" type remain.

I mentioned in another post how I like winter because it keeps the thugs inside and off the streets. Another thing I like about winter: the snowdrifts make it easier to reach utility pole sign spam, and knock it down.

I can see the we buy houses signs. However you endlessly bitch about people should buy homes in NOMI and fix them up and then you tear down signs for the working man trying to make a living in NOMI based on labor and revitilization? I just don't get it.

Nice neighborhoods don't allow this trash on their utility poles. We are trying to make our neighborhood nice. THEREFORE we don't allow trash on utility poles in our neighborhood. Now that I've broken it down for you so simply, do you GET IT?

The individuals putting up these signs should try Craigslist. I don't care if the sign says READ JOHNNY NORTHISIDE DOT COM, it's coming down if it's on a utility pole in North Minneapolis.

Ya, like they read your blog.
At least some sign spammers are trying to provide a service and make a living.
Why don't you get off your ass and get a job?

I have a job and I take those signs down too.

The one in this photo was a wooden sign affixed with a Phillips screw, so I was unable to take those down myself. Thanks, John, for going the distance on this one.

If these spammers were actually running legitimate businesses, they would use legitimate advertising. These spammers are folks looking to take advantage of people, they're not licensed, or insured, and when the inevitable happens and they don't do the work they're paid to do, or don't do it right the person who hired them is the one who ends up screwed. There's a reason you don't see so much spam in higher income areas, because these people prey on folks who are desperate to get by on the cheap, so they try to overlook things like a lack of a licensing and insurance, and ultimately, that ends up costing them more.

John's job is taking care of NoMi. I bet it does more for society than whatever you do.

@Anon 708pm

don't worry! When you call fire dept on us your call will magically disappear!! All of us revitalizers have a free pass with 911, 311 and any council members offices! We bribe them off with volunteer campaign time, campaign donations, facebook fan pages for their reelection or reappointment, cheerleading squads at public hearings and other little things like banana bread and turkey dinner at the precinct on holidays!!! Oh, and we pay their state land taxes for them if they happen to owe governmental agencies like, oh gee, the state of Wisconsin!

WADDYA THINK OF THAT?!!? :-)
