An Interesting North Minneapolis Connection With Kao Xiong, Father Of 4-Year-Old Who Shot 2-Year-Old Brother...

Most JNS blog readers have heard about the sad case of Kao Xiong, the father of a 4-year-old boy who shot and killed his 2-year-old brother with a weapon left in the home, unsecured. The incident happened in a town home in the Cedar Riverside neighborhood. I've never thought of the story as connected to North Minneapolis.

Until tonight, when I was looking at the jail roster...

For some reason, Xiong is listed on the jail roster as residing at a North Minneapolis address, specifically 1617 Hillside Ave. N. It's obviously the same Xiong, since the charges on the roster are 2nd Degree Manslaughter, Manslaughter 2nd Degree Culpable Risk And/Or Negligence, Child Endangerment, and Child Endangerment by Firearm Access.

The home at 1617 Hillside Ave. N. is a homestead owned by somebody whose name is one of the 18 surnames used by the Hmong principal clans. How Xiong has become listed at this Northside address instead of an address in Cedar-Riverside is a mystery to me but, well, there he is.

I was told behind the scenes by a source in a position to know that Kao Xiong was "living in two places at the same time."

It's too bad the Second Amendment keeps getting in the way of peoples' rights to LIFE, Liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
