Alonzo Demetrius McCoy, Who Was Convicted Of Possessing A Weapon Of Violence Following The Murder Of Alisha Neely, Was Out Of Prison Recently, But Now He's Right Back In...

MN DOC mug shot, therefore public domain, blog post by
John Hoff

In June of 2011, Alonzo Demetrius McCoy was sentenced to 4 years in prison for the murder of 17-year-old Alisha Neely. Headlines screamed FOUR YEARS!!!!

The same headline linked above made it appear he was convicted of murder. But police couldn't link the murderous bullet to this guy's gun, and more than one person was firing when Neely got hit, reportedly. So his conviction involved possessing a weapon of violence or something like that.

Something like THAT following the murder of Alisha Neely.

But I guess four years doesn't really mean four years...

McCoy was admitted to prison on July 1, 2011 but was released September 16, 2013. No matter how you count it, that's not four years. The media were all excited to report his sentencing but nobody (including this blogger or North By Northside blog) caught news of his release.

HOWEVER...

McCoy was arrested day before yesterday on a charge of, what else? ...

...Weapons possession.

He's sitting in jail right now on bail of $250,000 and a hold from the Minnesota Department of Corrections. Looks like he's headed back to prison where he belongs and where, I might add, he'll actually be quite a bit safer.

The jail roster lists his address as 2323 26th Ave. N., an address which doesn't make a lot of sense and turns under the master address of a lot owned by St. Anne's Community Development Limited. Of course, giving a wrong address to the jail personnel is about as serious as showing up for weekend incarceration without proper shower shoes.

Looks like his original conviction was only for "possessing a weapon for violence", not the murder per se. They probably didn't have enough evidence for an actual murder conviction. If we're lucky he'll get killed in prison.

The weapon of violence he possessed was in the course of a murder, though I read in one of the articles police couldn't link HIS gun with the fatal bullet.

I am going to change my headline to reflect what I'm seeing on the MNDOC website, but it may very well be the old mainstream media news article contains highly incorrect info about what, exactly, this guy was convicted of.

I'm pretty sure I saw this guy on the 19 today. He was telling someone sitting next to him that he just got out of jail. You might want to check into that. This loser he was talking to was complaining about how he needed to steal more laptops to make more $. He lost the last laptop he stole.

All of you people are so tough behind a computer. Alonzo is not a bad person. Yes he has made bad decisions as well all have, but he is not this monster that society claims. I am a close relative of him. He helped me when my mother passed away, he has volunteered without the forceful hand of the law and he loves his family very much. Find somebody else to pick on.

Alonzo McCoy is still in prison and will be until 2017.
