McKnight, Smithrud, And Chism Fail To File Campaign Expenditures Paperwork...

According to a reliable source, three candidates in the Fifth Ward City Council race have not filed full and complete campaign finance reports by September 8, as required. The three candidates are Kenya McKnight, Roger Smithrud, and Lennie Chism.

Reportedly, Kenya filed an incomplete and late report on or about September 23, and was notified by the campaign finance authorities that...

Her paperwork was not adequate. McKnight reportedly promised to file a more complete report the next day, but didn't show up and--as of Monday--still has not showed up.

Smithrud and Chism, on the other hand, have filed nothing as of Monday when my source last checked for a filing.

Why is her flier edited out? Is censorship of this nature part of your standard in this blog?

What is with these clowns? Do they honestly think all there is to being a politician is wearing a "Politician" sash, a top hat and waving from a convertible on the Fourth of July? Is it news to them there is work involved? It's so embarrassing; the whole rest of the city seems to operate on a relatively normal basis, but the Northside is like like some sort of Marx Brothers movie.

The flier was found like that, with some stuff blacked out. I wasn't responsible for blacking that stuff out. The flier was found in an Insight News newspaper rack at the Marathon station on Penn Ave. N.

whoops, it looks like she's lost a couple of endorsements (or else never should have listed them in the first place).

Pretty sad when you have to block out endorsements on your campaign flier by hand because they've either withdrawn their support, or been recently arrested.

This is what happened when clowns run for office.

Shouldn't it be "Endorsed By" instead of "Endorsed"

Wait, you just found a censored flier and never thought to obtain an unedited copy before posting it to your blog?

Do you really expect us to believe this 'I didn't do it, I found it that way' excuse??

Can you come up with a better excuse than a grade school child trying to sneak out of any wrongdoing?

Given the fact that Kenya submitted her "evidence" late in response to the DFL challenge she filed - she obviously cannot handle deadlines. It is scary to thing she has inflated her ego to the a size in which she thinks she can run this City. Her and Al must be smoking the same stuff...

Could you maybe disclose your "source" for once? You hammer others who offer information without disclosing their source so, why are you so special?

ok, Anon 9:27, whenever people block out information (usually an address or a meeting time) on their fliers because a change occurred after the flier was printed, and there wasn't time or money to reprint it, that isn't "censorship."

sheesh, is there anything, anywhere in the world, that isn't fodder for a conspiracy theory?

If you go to her website; http://www.kenyamcknightforchange.org
You will see under "Endorsements" the list of people not crossed off the flier. The evidence seems to support Vege*nation's conclusion.

It would indicate that claims of censorship on the part of JNS are dubious at best.

Is there something in the North Minneapolis water that makes people paranoid and devoid of reason?

Okay, then what's up with the confusing message slogans from Kenya? I just saw a sign at the Fish Hook on Broadway that said "It's About Our Furture" but if you check the website like Anony @ October 8, 2009 4:37 PM suggested, it says "Continuing the Change Locally", but then there was the flyer "Why Not?" just a few weeks ago.

My guess, she doesn't have Stonewall DFL anymore. Not sure about the other one. Maybe she removed the "successfully block the endorcement off..." message she had before.

Her website says she has over 500 residents from the 5th Ward supporting her. It is doubtful that she gets 500 votes in Nov with NJL in the race. JNS, wanna take bets?

I wouldn't be surprised if they were only in the race to take numbers away from Don. Maybe they want the garden gnome to win it all. With the new voting system's potential to confuse voters, it's possible that they don't even have to campaign let along read, follow and abide by campaign the rules.

All it takes is the ability to write a sentence to fill out the form declaring your candadacy. It's worst than a highschool popularity contest. At least there, the kids care to follow the rules.

It will be a sad day for the hood if one of those bafoons takes the race. Kiss your HOPE good-bye.

Anon 7:52 AM:

McKnight considers anyone who signed her nomination petition a vowed supporter and endorser of her candidacy:

http://insightnews.com/news/4690-the-plot-thickens-in-minneapolis-5th-ward

"Undaunted, McKnight took to the street and amassed petition style signatures of over 500 residents encouraging her to continue to run in the General Election. And when McKnight filed for office on July 20th she said she was “unmoved by the many contestants for the 5th Ward seat.”

She said she is standing on the vowed support of more than 500 residents in the 5th ward who are determined to stick with her to the very end. "

Since the format of nomination petitions are prescribed by law it's quite a stretch to say the signers are vowed supporters and endorsers of her candidacy.

Well, I'm pretty sure that all 500 of her sworn constituents will ACTUALLY SHOW UP AT THE POLLS. I'm sure that they even know when, where and how to vote. Moreoever, we know that when they show up to register and vote on the same day, they will bring their supporting materials. But, not to worry we also know that most of her constituents are already registered, concerned citizens that care about the community, (and her for that matter).

In Willard Hay, I see a close race. Don Samuels cannot afford to take this race for granted. Either McKnight or Natalie Johnson Lee could very easily make this difficult for him. This blog appeals to a certain sub-set of the North Mpls culture, a sub-set which Don Samuels can probably count on. There are a number of energized folks w/in the African American community who have been waiting for four years to have the chance to beat CM Samuels. Don cannot afford to take this race lightly, and should encourage his supporters to RANK SAMUELS #1 and leave the rest blank.
