Being the amazing, true-to-life adventures and (very likely) misadventures of a writer who seeks to take his education, activism and seemingly boundless energy to North Minneapolis, (NoMi) to help with a process of turning a rapidly revitalizing neighborhood into something approaching Urban Utopia. Evannor Haymon, Owner of 3020 6th St. N Arrested (Photo 3)
The individual known as "Pops," reportedly Evannor Haymon's uncle, sits on the steps of 3024 6th St. N. following the arrest of Haymon on unknown charges. This house next door to 3020 was once owned by Haymon but has fallen into foreclosure and beyond the period of redemption. A Level 3 sex offender who is "squatting" on the premises is scheduled for an eviction hearing on August 13.
In this photo, Pops looks forlorn. In the past, when greeted by individuals in the neighborhood, Pops greets them back in a friendly manner. One would like to believe--one truly WANTS to believe--Pops is not involved with criminal activity at the house. But long-term observations lead one to conclude otherwise.
I can't help but recall my conversation with Haymon right before the dedication of the tree farm and the visit by Mayor Rybak. I told Haymon he was a smart man, and therefore I assumed he made his money from land lording, NOT drugs.
"So why does a smart man like you want tenants who are involved in drug activity?" I asked. "This will only bring trouble down on you."
Haymon's response was something about how the neighborhood can't be changed. It was impossible.
