Why Read This Blog When You Can Wait For The Movie?

The Adventures of Johnny Northside Movie Trailer from Gabriel Cheifetz on Vimeo.

This blog has mentioned, quite a few times, the video documentary project of "612 Authentic," which has been ongoing for almost a year, now. It's the story--told through the lives of a handful of actual residents--of North Minneapolis remaking itself for the better in the wake of the messy foreclosure crisis.

Now the movie project is quite far along and has just released its trailer, see above.

This documentary will be full of familiar characters who are...

...often mentioned on this blog. But more than that, it will tell the story of our hope, our belief, our struggle to make our neighborhood something much better.

We've had a long string of successes stamping out crime and demolishing houses that were beyond redemption...though a few demolished houses, arguably, could have been redeemed and the tragic loss of these irreplaceable old buildings is also well documented. This movie tells a messy and complicated story, because it's a true story, not just another sweeping generalization about North Minneapolis or the economy.

Anyway, the trailer is lots of fun, but after watching the trailer be sure to click "more" to see additional video footage of a North Minneapolis house demolition.
