Good People, Good Food At Don Samuels' Fundraiser...

Here are some images from Friday's fundraiser for Council Member Don Samuels, which was held at the Mill City Cafe. Many movers and shakers were there, some of which are pictured above. At the top...

Steve Hogan, who worked for the Obama campaign in Minnesota and now works for Minneapolis DFL-endorsed candidates. Second, Jose Velez and his son Bobby. Velez is the policy aid to Don Samuels and he used to be the Executive Director of the Hawthorne Neighborhood Council. (Of course, I think the HNC was called "HACC" at that time)

In the next photo, Jose shows how the Samuels campaign literature has "gone green." The backing of the peel-off sticker is a post card.

In the next photo, pictured with Don Samuels, Ward 1 City Council Member Paul Ostrow, who says that courage is sorely lacking in politics, and Don Samuels is the most courageous person he's ever worked with (in politics). Pictured below Paul Ostrow is Jennifer Young, who is involved with the California Building (click here for a link) and--some years ago--threw Don's first fundraiser held in Northeast.

Paul Ostrow poses with his mother in the next photo. Now in his early 50s, he looks forward to "starting a new career" and maybe getting back into practicing law after 12 years as a city councilman. When asked, he agreed it might be nice to spend more time with his mother, too.

In the next photo, Sarita Turner of the West Broadway Area Coalition, click here, pictured with County Commissioner Mark Stenglein.

In the final photo, Kevin Reich--widely presumed to be the next Ward 1 City Council Member--with outgoing Ward 1 City Council Member Paul Ostrow.

Adding something of an editorial comment...Don Samuels is an inspiring speaker, and in him one sees somebody who could become the next mayor of Minneapolis, once R.T. Rybak gets tired of fending off the likes of "Crackpot" Candidate Al Flowers. It was a great fundraiser, with deviled eggs, chicken satay, and delicious rustic bread. At the end of Don's speech, everybody was invited to check out an art gallery next door, which was also very cool and hopefully the subject of a future post.
