and Criticism, blog post by John Hoff
Every new name that turns up in association with the shooting of two-month-old Isaac Early reveals a new flavor in a seven-layer bean dip of family dysfunction, criminality, poverty, bad lifestyle choices, drug addiction, poor social media choices and tattoo overkill. The name of Paulette Early, which appears on a criminal complaint as the mother of baby shooter James Early, and therefore the baby's grandmother, is no different...
Here is Paulette Early's rap sheet, and it speaks well enough for itself.
27-CR-94-047612 EARLY, PAULETTE LATRICE 01/08/1973 06/09/1994 Hennepin Criminal/Traffic/Petty Downtown Crim/Traf Mandatory Closed DISORDERLY CONDUCT DRIVING AFTER SUSPENSION
Convicted on the disorderly conduct, the driving after suspension was dismissed. Had ten days hanging over her, but it was stayed for a year.
27-CR-95-001289 EARLY, PAULETTE LATRICE 01/08/1973 02/03/1995 Hennepin Criminal/Traffic/Petty Downtown Crim/Traf Mandatory Closed CHECK FORGERY
She went into an adult diversion program called De Novo in 1995, but I guess that didn't work out so well because the charge shows as a conviction in 1997. Looks like she served a short sentence on weekends due to "child care conflicts."
19-K7-96-001105 EARLY, PAULETTE LATRICE 01/08/1973 05/13/1996 Dakota-Hastings - Criminal/Traffic/Petty Misdemeanor Converted Closed OFFER FORGED CHECK OFFER FORGED CHECK
Oh, again with the forged check. Pled guilty, got probation. Incredibly, as late as 7/10/2007 there was a probation violating hearing on the docket of this case, which started out in 1997.
27-CR-96-044091 EARLY, PAULETTE LATRICE 01/08/1973 05/28/1996 Hennepin Criminal/Traffic/Petty Brookdale Crim/Traf Mandatory Closed WORTHLESS CHECKS
Oh, now the check isn't "forged," it's just "worthless." I can't tell if this represents an improvement or a worsening of the criminal activity. Guilty, suspended $25 fine.
27-CR-97-087786 EARLY, PAULETTE LATRICE 01/08/1973 10/01/1997 Hennepin Criminal/Traffic/Petty Downtown Crim/Traf Mandatory Closed FALSE INFORMATION TO POLICE DRIVING AFTER SUSPENSION DRIVING W/O INSURANCE
Convicted only on the false information to police. Sentenced to 10 days with credit for 7 days.
27-CR-98-003408 EARLY, PAULETTE LATRICE 01/08/1973 01/12/1998 Hennepin Criminal/Traffic/Petty Brookdale Crim/Traf Mandatory Closed DRIVING AFTER SUSPENSION-MISD NO PROOF OF INSURANCE COVERAGE
The no proof of insurance was dismissed, guilty on the driving after suspension.
27-CR-98-125378 EARLY, PAULETTE LATRICE 01/08/1973 12/17/1998 Hennepin Criminal/Traffic/Petty Downtown Crim/Traf Mandatory Closed FALSELY USE NAME/DOB OF ANOTHER DRIVE AFTER SUSPENSION SEMAPHORE VIOLATION
Found guilty on the use of false name, other charges dismissed. Got credit for three days served and had 57 days hanging over her for a year.
27-CR-06-083930 EARLY, PAULETTE LATRICE 01/08/1973 12/04/2006 Hennepin Criminal/Traffic/Petty Downtown Crim/Traf Mandatory Closed SOLICIT, INDUCE AND PROMOTE PROSTITUT
Pled guilty. Got unsupervised probation. Got credit for 30 days served.
27-CR-07-028620 EARLY, PAULETTE LATRICE 01/08/1973 05/04/2007 Hennepin Criminal/Traffic/Petty Downtown Crim/Traf Mandatory Closed CONTROLLED SUB CRIME 5TH DEG-POSSESSION
Convicted, and that's where the simple part of the docket ends. This sentence has so many docket notations I can hardly tell what happened, except she had 15 months in prison hanging over her head at one point. Oh, let's see, she had a furlough to treatment. She was credited for days served, repeatedly.
Credit for 30 days. Credit for 5 days. Credit for 7 days. From my reading of this messy docket, she was finally sent to Shakopee women's prison with credit for 186 days.
27-CR-07-102768 EARLY, PAULETTE LATRICE 01/08/1973 07/27/2007 Hennepin Criminal/Traffic/Petty Downtown Crim/Traf Mandatory Closed Prostitution - Prostitute - Prior Conviction
Guilty. Got credit for 186 days, a familiar number from the PREVIOUS conviction. I'm guessing the same days were applied to both sentences.
27-CR-09-21171 SINGLETON, PAULETTE LATRICE 01/08/1973 04/28/2009 Hennepin Criminal/Traffic/Petty Southdale Crim/Traf Mandatory Under Court Jurisdiction False Name and date of Birth to a Peace Officer Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
Note the last name here is "Singleton" but this is listed as a name used by Paulette Early, and the birthday is the same.
Found guilty. Credit for 91 days, sentence of 91 days.
So ends the rap sheet. But, of course, this only covers Minnesota. If there are any convictions in other states, I'm not showing those here.
This blogger is not the only resident of North Minneapolis asking aloud, "Did Baby Isaac Early ever have a chance in life? With the family he was born into?"
