This Is Why We Can't Have Nice Things, Northside Playground Set Ablaze...Again

The plume of smoke is just barely visible from my own home, but I found a much better photo on North Talk Facebook page. A playground at a school in the Jordan Neighborhood...I don't have the specific name of the playground or the school...is on fire.

This is what happens when groundskeepers use shredded rubber instead of gravel. Shredded rubber is superior in some ways, preventing more bruises and scrapes. The downside is you can SET IT ON FIRE. There was actually another playground blaze some months ago just north of Lowry Avenue, so residents are very much feeling like "Oh, no, not again" and "this is why we can't have nice things."

To which I say...

This is why every decent Northside resident needs to have a camera pointed out their front door recording WHATEVER.

And, of course, it should be pointed out it's possible this was an ACCIDENT, the culprit being (naturally) some careless smoker.

(Under breath)

Of WEED.

It's funny I don't see people flicking their roaches around while people are always flicking their cigarette butts.
Bad try at being clever and witty, sir.
This is another ploy from the annals of Chicago type behavior designed to take over neighborhoods by making them unlivable.
I think we should create hit squads to take out the trash and blow a few hundred of these guys away. How about it ?

This is Jordan Park Elementary, now the Hmong Academy.

Maybe regular citizens should have more cameras pointed at their streets, but also the City of Mnneapolis SHOULD be able to install many many more cameras, integrate the recorded data and do it much more cheaply than an array of citizens. Of course an array of a few thousand webcams that should be relatively inexpensive would cost much more than it should if done by RT & Co., since they would rather spend money putting gardens on top of buildings and spending $1/2 billion to build a Nicollet/Central streetcar line to run on top of existing bus lines.

actually, a north resident did a little experiment and could not get pieces of the rubber to catch fire. she used gasoline, lighter fluid, hairspray, etc. only when adding paper/wood did it catch fire. all her pics are on north vent, check it out.
