Councilman Samuels Watches Out For Cottage Park...

Contributed Photos

A sad incident in the Cottage Park area of the Jordan Neighborhood turned into something heartwarming thanks to Fifth Ward Councilmember Don Samuels.

First of all, Cottage Park used to be one of the roughest parts of Jordan, but recently there has been incredible progress in cleaning up that area. Some weeks ago I wrote about the grand re-opening of a church in that area, and attending that event with my son, click here.

Anyway, some time around the last week of June...

...no-account thugs ripped out flowers which had been planted by children to beautify this area. The damage was far too extensive to blame squirrels. The (second) photo above doesn't show all the damage.

But shortly after the incident happened, City Councilman Don Samuels bought replacement flowers out of his own pocket and personally replanted the blooms. (First photo)

Thank you, Don Samuels. This is a great instance of leading by example.

Are you going to collect your fee now? You should double, maybe even triple your fee for this kind of good publicity.

(sarcasm font from Jordan Neighbor looks like this)

Right, because I am the "agent" of Don Samuels.

Yeah, I'll be expecting about twice as much green tea ginger ale as usual, paid by Kip Browne to avoid leaving any financial paper trail. Oh, and a burger. I sure as hell will be wanting a burger, well done.

This is the best way to deter these types of deadbeats, be resilient. They will eventually get bored and leave.

John, I sent you some "after" photos too. I'll resend them if they were lost in the shuffle, but the flowers are looking good!

Thanks Don!
