107 North Minneapolis Homes Without Power, Xcel Is Working On The Problem...

Stock photo, blog post by John Hoff

According to a customer service rep with Xcel, 107 homes in North Minneapolis are without power right now as a result of a problem with an overhead fuse. Crews are working on it and it is hoped power will be restored by 2 PM today.

Do not open your fridge. Keeping the fridge closed will keep the food cold since the fridge is insulated. Your food should be fine as long as the outage doesn't persist for days instead of hours. It is advised to unplug appliances so they don't become damaged due to a surge when power is restored but, frankly, I've never seen that actually happen. You can heat your house with your kitchen gas stove, but you may have to light the burners with a match. This is perfectly safe, just don't get your finger in the flames.

Thank goodness my laptop has full battery power.

Blogging operations will continue, uninterrupted.

Power was restored at 1:25 PM, approximately.

Good job, Xcel. Better to under promise and over deliver than over promise and under deliver.
