Time To Put "Dana D Roman Numeral Three" On The Public Radar: This Is What Slumlording Looks Like...

Stock Photo By John Hoff

A person described as a "concerned NoMi resident" passed a bunch of stuff my way about a slumlord empire called "Dana D (Roman Numeral) Three" properties, and I'm more than happy to be a conduit for information. I can't take credit for this, except in my conduit-y way.

Here's is the slummy fun ride, as follows...

First, there was an MPR article on this situation several months ago. Here's the link to it:
http://minnesota.publicradio.org/display/web/2009/03/02/mplsforeclose/

They also had a map of Danna D III properties. Here's that map:
http://minnesota.publicradio.org/features/2009/03/02_property_losses/index.shtml

Armed with this information, (the concerned NoMi citizen) looked up property tax information at the Hennepin County website: http://www16.co.hennepin.mn.us/pins/addrsrch.jsp

And I looked up property information at the city of Minneapolis website:
http://apps.ci.minneapolis.mn.us/AddressApp/SearchByAddress.aspx?AppID=PIApp

I searched property-by-property from the info on the map. I don't know how Brandt Williams (of MPR) got his info. All properties are owned by Danna D III properties and list Julia A Rozhansky, 612-250-7400 as a contact person (when such a contact person is listed) Two other constants: every delinquent property tax bill listed in the MPR article of 3/2/09 was brought
current. And none of the TISH items that they actually complied with were done before the deadline.

JNS Blog says: Wow, that's quite an impressive little empire. I have faith city officials are either all over it or soon will be.

My question is CAN THEY BE SUED?

thanks for posting this information. It is very helpful to see how prolific this problem is in north minneapolis. I wonder how many other "investors" are wreaking havoc on North Minneapolis?

This is something we, the public, COULD know if we had the ability to search property ownership by NAME.

I wonder what the reason is? Is it strictly a monetary issue? Is it a technical one? Is there some Minnesota law that governs this issue? Or is the request simply being ignored?

I do know that I have been able to search properties by name in bigger cities. I had a hard time doing that in smaller cities.

Thanks for bringing attention to this...I live next door to one of these properties.

I was DELIGHTED when I read the MPR article and thought FINALLY...

But then just last week I looked up the address and some how they had their Rental License approved.

Now I don't know what goes into getting rental licence approval, but apparently not much more than cash (in pockets, not in property upkeep)...

Like Anonymous, I am also living next door to one of these Danna D owned properties. I get to remove all manner of things from my lawn before I can mow. These things are often tossed through the screenless windows-beer cans, broken window glass and screens, socks, partial toilet paper rolls, shampoo bottles, diapers. To be fair, before the current tenants moved in they had window glass and screens. The management or the city mowed the grass at the property for the first time this season this week. In doing so, several of their beer cans were launched into my yard and I'll need to keep an eye out for window glass thrown by the mower too. Today I was treated to 4 hours of nonstop puppy crying and 2 hours of 2 different Boom-Boom cars at the same time. I witnessed 3 people who seem associated with the tenants try to break into a nearby boarded building. I only ran into this blog in trying to contact the owner to inform him that his property was out of control.

This property has had rental License revoked before under different ownership, and I thought in order to be approved, they had to be without violations, and have a clean management history and valid management plan.

I'd love to see this owner/company lose all 30 rental licenses permanently.
