At the war dead boot display on the State Capitol grounds, the North Dakota boots stood out because of their desert color, fresh flowers on each boot, upright position and location in the first row. In a state with a small population like North Dakota, even a relatively small number of casualties are devastating to the community. Though all the boots were presented with care and grace, there was something extra special about the North Dakota boots this day.
